Brigitte, you are one of those who cannot only listen but also sympathize and comfort. I think this is perhaps the most important quality for making, deepening and maintaining friendships. You give your interlocutor space. But you are also able to categorize the statements made and come to an intellectual synthesis.

Cultural competence can build relationships that go far beyond the purely intellectual and into the realms of the 'subtle'. A good example of this might be your ability to enjoy poetry. Poems generate flights of thought that are not easy to sustain. The 'swing' beyond this, the 'poetic dimension' so to speak, is also part of your life, and this makes you a very complete being.
