An effective mission statement shapes the corporate culture

An effective mission statement shapes the corporate culture

At SAH Schaffhausen, we were able to experience how a mission statement began to take shape during the development process. Managers and employees from all departments worked on it in an iterative, participatory process. Different perspectives were brought in, discussed, and brought together—and it was precisely this change of perspective that connected people and created a shared reality.

Using playful, creative methods, we collected ideas, thoughts, and key statements, which we condensed into a written mission statement in the project team. The next step was particularly impressive: employees explained the essence of the mission statement in their own words. From this, visual facilitator Michèle Rousselot created initial sketches – and from the sketches, a colorful overall picture.

This made the mission statement visible and tangible. But the greatest added value lay in the dialogue about the image: values and mission were sharpened, and identification with the SAH was strengthened.

Today, the visualization is more than just a graphic. It offers added value in everyday use, for example in recruitment or when explaining the wide range of services to customers and stakeholders – both internally and externally. The visualization shapes the culture and is something that employees proudly support.
